Mag pays homage to Washington Duke

Duke's Washington Duke Inn gains magazine's notice.

The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club in Durham will be flaunting its Southern flair more than usual now.

The Durham hotel and conference center has been named one of 15 charter members of Southern Living magazine?s Southern Living Hotel Collection, characterized by the magazine as an elite group of independent resorts, hotels and inns in eight Southern states. Members were chosen by the editors and managers of the magazine, and membership is by invitation only.

Two other properties in North Carolina were invited to join, including The Greystone Inn in Lake Toxaway and The Grove Park Inn in Asheville.

The magazine will continue to select properties to the group over the coming years until the list reaches up to 100 locations across the South.

The announcement was recently made online at USAToday.com as well as in the July issue of Southern Living.

?The 15 charter members of the Southern Living Hotel Collection are made up of iconic Southern resorts, historic Southern hotels and newly discovered Southern inns,? stated Southern Living Publisher Greg Schumann in a news release. ?We?re very proud of our unique collection as they all serve to provide the very best in Southern hospitality.?
